| Booth Auditorium Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley |
Our intentions for the Symposium are multiple: to educate interested individuals and groups about the causes and effects of Hurricane Katrina on the environment and communities of color in the Gulf; to bring together the environmental justice communities of the Gulf Region and the Bay Area to convene and connect in order to learn about one another’s work, strengthen existing relationships and re-energize for future action; and to generally raise awareness about the intersection and confluence of the movements for racial and environmental justice.
We will begin the day hearing directly from a panel of survivors of Katrina. The second panel will focus on giving context to the disaster and the ongoing environmental justice organizing in New Orleans. Following the keynote address, a panel will discuss what environmental justice impacts a natural disaster might cause in the Bay Area. Finally, we will conclude with a panel concentrating on the just rebuilding of New Orleans and how the EJ movement can move forward following Katrina.
One hour MCLE credit available. This event is wheelchair accessible. |
